"Accelerated Free Fall" (AFF) is a system used world wide for teaching Free Fall Skills.

It is called 'Accelerated' because it allows for fast and progressive teaching methods, which enable students to become a solo skydiver after completing a nine stage course.

Initial training takes around eight hours to complete.

All aspects of Skydiving pertaining to your first jump are covered in this session.

The training is divided into three phases;

    1. The first is the Academic phase. It includes information such as:

  • Course Overview
  • The Australian Parachute Federation
  • Parachuting Equipment
  • Aircraft Types and Exit procedures
  • Free Fall Control (Stability)
  • Canopy Handling Skills (Driving the Parachute)
  • Landing the Parachute (under different conditions)
  • Parachute Recovery

    2. The second Phase is the Practical Phase. It includes:

  • Fitting and checking equipment
  • Aircraft seating and movement
  • Aircraft exit procedures
  • Free Fall Skills practice
  • Parachute handling (in a suspended harness)
  • Malfunctions and emergency procedures
  • Landing the parachute (Radio assistance, Mechanical assistance and landing without assistance)
  • Written examination
  • Final practice of all skills as per the first jump

    3. The third phase is the Jumping Phase. Assessments are made on the following:

  • Fitting and checking Equipment
  • Final Exit practice
  • The ride to height
  • Pre exit procedures
  • Exit from the aircraft
  • Free Fall Skills (Aims are - Overcome sensory overload, Height Awareness, General Awareness and Ripcord Pull at 4000 feet)
  • Canopy Handling (Driving the parachute)
  • Landing the parachute
  • De-Briefing

Upon successfully completing the Aims of stage one, the student can move on and be trained for stage two. Training for each subsequent stage takes around one hour. This is because we are adding on to existing skills, which have been demonstrated on the previous jump.

During the first three stages, the student is assisted by two jumpmasters. After the successful completion of stage three, the student moves on to assistance with one jumpmaster.

Additional skills such as Parachute Packing, Aircraft Spotting (directing the pilot) and Advanced Parachute Handling are taught as the course progresses.

Our Aim is to assist you to become a safe, competent and confident Skydiver. The Accelerated Free Fall Course is an excellent way of achieving this.
